  2. Clash of Clans is all about offense and defense. Both aspects take a lot of strategy to succeed in. You also even have to prioritize trophies or loot. Making a good defensive setup can be hard to do at low town hall levels; you just don't have enough buildings. Given these factors I decided to use an unorthodox strategy for protecting my base: the shield.

One factor often overlooked by low-level players is the shield. When you are defeated in an attack with less than 90% damage you get a twelve hour shield. No player can attack you when you have a shield. When more than 90% damage is achieved, however, you are given a sixteen hour shield. I have calculate that I lose less loot overall by not defending my base than when I do. When I defend my base, I often will be attacked two to four times before the next time I log on. When I don't, however, I only get attacked once. This strategy also allows me to allocate more resources towards offense and future resource generation.

One thing I am concerned about though, is how my base will fare at higher town hall levels. It is possible for attackers to steal more loot, so it might be better to start building defenses. For now, I am not going to worry about that because my strategy is working excellently.

    1. Ryan, I think your strategy is a good one. Do you focus on resources, attacking, or a little of both. Did you use your gems to get a one day shield? If so, hows that working for you. As to your question, I think your base will do quite well at a higher level town hall. I say this because a higher level town hall will offer more opportunities to build various buildings and defenses. Good luck with your village and army.

  3. Clash of Clans can be a challenging game at points. There are many strategies one can use to excel in the game. I feel that defending ones village is a key skill to have. The different forms of defense mechanisms can be utilized in various types of ways. For example, one might might focus on quantity instead of quality. In other words, individuals might get a lot of cannons, archer towers, traps, mortars, etc. While others will only have a few defense mechanisms, but they will be upgraded to impinge more damage. And this leads me to my next point.

When I was attacked for the first time, I was heart broken. I felt as if the world was after me and I couldn't do anything. I'm pretty sure I won but not by much. They took all my gold and elixir and left me to clean up the mess. Not even an apology letter was sent. There's this cool feature the game posses and it's called replay. I used this to watch the attack. By doing this I was able to recognize the areas in which my village needed improvement. I then acted.

I beefed up my defense. I upgraded my cannons, archer towers, traps, and walls. I also upgraded my gold storage so I could upgrade my town hall which allows one to have more defense mechanisms, like mortars, air defense, wizard towers, etc. It was quite interesting. Out of all the defense techniques people use, I think that walls and mortars do the most damage to the enemy. The walls keep the offense outside ones village while the mortar shells the enemy with powerful bombs. Overall, I feel this game is a great way to practice strategy and have lots of fun.

I am wondering, what is the best attack strategy? I have tried various ones, sometimes I win, and sometimes I lose. I don't know if I should upgrade my troops, army camps, or barracks?

    1. Jordan, my strategy is using mostly archers and barbarians. They train up the fastest in the game and are good at all levels if you use them right. In that sense, upgrading barracks isn't as important, but it is still useful. Upgrading army camps is important too, but it might not be as important as upgrading troops. Hope this helps! Ryan

    2. In my opinion upgrading you troops and barracks is more important than upgrading your army camps. That is until you have enough elixir to regularly fill up your army camp with troops. Also when you unlock potions use them as much a as possible they are very useful

    3. I disagree with Tyler. I have gotten along just fine with only archers and barbarians, just like Ryan. I also steadily increase my camps, so there is still improvement.

  6. Clash of Clans is an interesting game which combines attacking and defending your village. What is unique about this is that all of the people that you attack or get attacked by are real people. When you first start the game you are given a shield which prevents other players from attacking you for a certain amount of time. This lets you prepare your village a little bit before the other players start attacking you. My first base in my opinion, was pretty good. It was a blob of every building and defense surrounded by one layer of walls. But once my shield was out I learned the hard way that the base I had was not going to work. Clash of Clans has a feature which lets you watch the replays from your defenses so I was able to watch exactly what happened. My base was swarmed by a horde of fifty barbarians. They quickly broke through my one layer of walls and demolished every building in their path. My entire village was destroyed. This attack let me know that I needed to change my village, and fast.

Although my first defense was a complete failure, I learned some new things about the game and how to defend. My second base was a much better base than my first one. I took out the non essential building which gave me more walls to use for protecting the important stuff, loot. My new base also had compartments which are a building completely surrounded by walls, making a compartment. This acts as a buffer for the troops so the defenses have time to take them out before they get to the defense itself. My base also had the town hall outside of the walls which lets me have even more walls. The town hall also has a lot of hit points so it is harder for the enemies to take out. Even though my town hall was outside the walls it did not go unprotected, my defenses were still able to hit the troops attacking it. Sometimes my defenses would do more damage than the attacker and would destroy his army before they could destroy my town hall. Building this new base is an example of what the game is all about. Adapting and overcoming.

One of the things that I am confused about is the loot system. I know you are not able to take all of someone's loot but how does the game decide how much you get? Is it by level? Or is it by town hall? Also does this work in reverse so if a lower level/town hall attacks a higher level/town hall do they get more loot?

    1. Ethan, I like that you used replay. I used it myself and It works quite well. I have used it to improve not only my village but my strategy for attacking. As for your question, I think the loot depends on how many trophies you have. But I'm not sure. I hope the game is a lot of fun, I hope your liking it. Good luck

    2. The way loot works the higher TH the higher percent you can take from each storage. Loot penalties reduce loot that you can take from low level opponents

      Delete
    3. I don't think that the looting system is based on level or town hall, I think it is completely based on the percent of damage you do to elixr and gold collectors or storage.

  7. My design was pretty good. I built my base like a baseball diamond, fortifying my town hall, gold and elixir storage, and defenses. When an enemy attacks the outside of my walls, they are forced to attack my gold mines while my cannons and archer tower whittle down their health. It all seemed according to plan.
But I left one fatal error in my design. In the center of my walls (right where the pitcher's mound would be) I put a bomb. Unfortunately, enemies can still place troops on top of bombs. So my attackers just put all their troops in the center, and took down my town hall with no resistance.
Of course, I have fixed this problem by moving my bombs and putting something in the center to block troop placement. But it was still pretty funny when I came back to my perfectly fortified base and found all my gold and elixir was gone.

    1. If you put a piece of a wall next to the bomb, it will keep them from putting their troops there

    2. It is always important to make sure that every part of your base is covered by something that doesnt allow troops to be spawned. It is good that you fixed this as soon as possible as it is very devastating to your clan.

    3. I will build upon what has already been said. Troops can only be placed outside of building perimeters, which borders the building and an additional tile outward. That being said, Lauren is correct in mentioning the use of fences. They're cheap, take up little space, and have the building perimeter. Altogether, fences are the best way to patch up "placement-holes". They can be an eyesore if they' are not as upgraded as other walls or if their placement is less than appealing. Your choice then is of three possibilities: Keep a pretty but impractical base, use a less-pretty but practical base, or create a new village design to remove the problem altogether.

  8. The last time I was attacked was two days ago. I lost to the opposing clan, my clan was %50 deystroyed at the end of the battle. After watching the replay I noticed that my opponent used the structures I had placed outside of my clan walls as an advantage. This worked very well for them becuase by the time they came into my defense range they had already destroyed %10 of my village. Afther this loss I moved these buildings inside of my walls so anyone attacking me could not deystroy them without losing troops in return. Hoepfully this helps in the next attack.

I have observed some other defensive issue while analysing this question as well. I notice that having uprgraded walls greatly improves your defense as it gives your cannnons and other defenses more time to kill troops before the walls are breached. Also using defenses such as spring taps and bombs deals a lot of damage and is very useful.

One thing I am curious about is the best way to collect trophys. I am more interested in trpohys than loot, But I am not sure of the best way to defend my town hall and more important structures. I am also not great at using stratagey to help destroy other clans town halls and important structures. What is the best way to trophy hunt?

    1. I believe the only way to get trophies is to conquer other player's bases. So, if you want trophies, train up a lot of barbarians, archers, and whatever other troops you have and go attack somebody!
HINT: Normally, if you see a base that you don't want to attack, you have to pay like 50 coins to skip it. You can avert this problem, however, by going into your mail section and clicking on someone that attacked you's name. It will come up with 2 options, one of which lets you visit their base for free, so you can decide whether you want to attack them or not. Hope that helps save some money for you!

  9. After only a few hours of beginning to play Clash of Clans, I was attacked by another village. Of course I was very vulnerable, having only upgrading my village when the tutorial had told me to. Luckily, the attacking clan decided to only target a few specific spots, instead of ruining my entire village. By far, my weakest spot of defense was around my gold storage. In previous experience with a few simulation games before Clash of Clans, I assumed that one of the main goals was to earn as much money as possible, so I decided to focus completely on upgrading my gold mine, which eventually backfired on me. The clan almost wiped out my gold storage. To protect my gold and elixir storages in the future, I could place cannons and walls around them so that opposing forces had to work much harder and hopefully be killed.

After I watched a replay of the attack on my village, I realized that I lacked a lot of defense around my most valuable units and made sure to add a few bombs and cannons for protection. I thought about which would be more efficient, building multiple walls to surround the entire village and actually be helpful, or building multiple cannons and other weapons. I settled on a few cannons after attacking another clan and observing the utility of defensive weapons.

As I have become more knowledgable about this game, I still wonder how players are able to advance so quickly and well while it takes me quite a while to level up after many attacks. I also wonder how players can earn shields. When a player is in the possession of a shield, must it be used during the next attack on their clan, or can it be saved to use another time?

  10. I just got attacked for the first time today. I was focusing on building/upgrading my resources such as the gold mines and the elixirs. I've been saving up my gold coins, and continuously upgrading my Town Hall, so that I could continue to upgrade my resources. Even though I was doing well, (getting lots of resources), I was worried that if I got attacked all of my work would have been for nothing. Since I was trying to protect my village as much as possible, I put everything in my village close together.

From attacking other people, I realized that the cannons and bombs work well. I put a number a cannons and bombs around the perimeter of my village and continuously upgraded them. I thought that my strategy worked pretty well considering I still have everything in place, and that I still have the same amount of gold coins and elixirs.

Even though my village was able to withstand the attack, I hope to better my defense mechanisms. In the future I want to continue to upgrade my cannons and bombs. I also want to build a wall around my village so it would be difficult for the attacker to destroy much. I will continue to learn new and better strategies the more time I spending playing this game.

    1. Naomi, your strategy seems like it is paying off. I hope that you keep winning your battles. I think that my best advice for you is just to read other peoples' posts and replies. I think that this is the best way to learn about how different strategies are paying off. Good luck!

    2. I agree with you about the importance of cannons, since they have worked really well in defending my village as well. I didn't even know that it was possible to upgrade cannons and bombs, so I hope that will help in the future for my village as well.

  11. Again, this didn't go through. Another attempt:

The last time I was attacked, I lost to a horde of 110 barbarians and a lightning potion, although my village was left at 87%. This proves that I can hold out for the entire Attack duration, but I need to work on defenses so I don't lose. With my builders busy, I used my ready troops for a decisive attack victory to reclaim my lost trophies and gain more.

Through re-watching previous replays of attacks to respond, I noticed a current Achilles heel in my village design: the resources. Protected by a mortar, two cannons, and two archers, this seemingly isn't enough. Upgrades and an in-the-works new village design should get rid of this issue.

I'm curious as to whether it's better to protect resources or the town hall. What works best for others? Currently, I'm working with a balance between protection for both, which leads me to wonder if I should shift all/ most defenses to one or the other. I appreciate any opinions on this matter.

    1. Noah, I'm unsure as to whether I can help your with this problem. I will try though. I personally have been using a strategy that seems to work well with many clans by protecting my resources the most heavily. I have also seen clans that keep their town halls utterly defenseless so that they can get automatic shields.
I am not at a high level in this game, however, and I do not know what role the town hall plays in terms of your success and advancement in Clash of Clans.

    2. Personally, I have a defense strategy similar to yours. I am also unsure whether I should further protect my resources or town hall. Even though I try to protect everything equally, I am coming to learn that having strong defenses around your town hall is key in surviving an attack. I have noticed that the most damage I receive from attacks is when my town hall is demolished. Therefore my advice to you would be to make sure you have a strong defense around town hall and that it is difficult for any opponent to even reach.

  12. When I was first attacked, I actually won the battle because I had built up a wall and added a tower and canon to my defenses. I also kept my resources inside the defenses and easily protected.

While my defenses were good enough to succeed against this level of attacker, I am sure that I need to upgrade my defenses in order to keep my resources safe and continue to win my battles. I have been lucky so far because I have not been attacked very often and have been able to win these battles.

Some weaknesses I would like to eliminate would be gaps in my wall and low level canons. If I can close up gaps in my wall and canon defenses, I hope I will keep winning battles.
Also, I want to experiment with shields and bombs. Do you guys have any tips about when these can be useful?

    1. Shields can be very useful since you won't have to worry about attacks, but they also seem quite costly to me. Personally, I would much rather spend the limited amount of gems I have on something bigger later on. Even though I think shields just aren't worth the price, I have found great use in bombs. They don't cost too much and they can do a good deal of damage to opponents. I definitely think you should go ahead and buy enough walls so there is no part of your village open. Having gaps in your walls can be a huge advantage for enemy attacks.

    2. I've been using bombs, and they have been working really well. As long as you continue to upgrade your bombs they should be a good form of defense.

    3. Keep your town hall and 51% of your stuff protected is my advice

  13. The first time I was attacked was soon after I first joined the game. It didn't cause much trouble since I didn't have any trophies yet and I didn't have a lot of coins or elixir I was disappointed about losing. The weak spots in my village were where I hadn't yet built walls. Even the spots where I had walls, there weren't leveled up so they were easy to break through.

After re-watching past attacks I have realized that I should focus more on having a stronger defense. I was previously only concerned about gaining coins and elixir, but that doesn't matter if it can easily be stolen by an attacker. To make my defense better I am going to first level up my walls. I also plan on buying other defense objects like cannons and bombs so that if the attackers succeed in breaking my walls, I still have defenses set in place.

I'm curious as to what is the most important building/object in my village that I should choose to protect. I also wonder what defense items I can buy that are most effective. As I continue through this game I hope to learn more about this. I also hope I can build great defenses so even when I am attacked, I don't loose any trophies.

    2. I agree with Naomi that bombs can be very effective when defending your village. I use a lot of cannons in my village because of their far range, and I recommend using them in yours.

    3. I believe that your strategy for remebering your encounters is effective. rewatching the attacks was a good idea.

  14. This happens to be a touchy subject with my villagers. I say this because no matter what I do, I can't seem to find an efficient way to protect my village. Every time I switch around all my things, I feel like I'm protected. Then I go back on my account, and I would have been attacked 3 times having lost every single one.

When I think back to previous attacks on my village,I see that my weak spots was focusing mostly on the wall. One can not expect to win an attack with only walls. I barely ever upgrade any of my defense weapons which is definitely a huge mistake. Eventually, all my enemies will break through my walls. Though when you have better upgraded weapons, you kill more attackers, thus slowing them down and maybe even stopping them.

I think that one way I can improve on my village is upgrading. I need to upgrade everything I have, not just my defense. I usually just upgrade when it is absolutely necessary, and that has to stop today. These reflections has inspired me to be better to my villagers by going on my clan more than once every couple days. In order to help them of course
